The system..
Osteopathy is a system that detects and treats damaged parts of the body, such as muscles, nerves, joints, ligaments and internal organs. It recognises that much of the pain and disability from which we suffer stems from abnormalities in our body's structure, and that treating these abnormalities improves the function of our musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, respiratory and genitourinary systems.
By performing joint manipulations, stretches, soft tissue mobilisation and other manual techniques, the osteopath aims to restore muscular strength and flexibility, joint mobility and physical alignment, thereby reducing pain and preventing reoccurance of symptoms. Treatment is gentle, therefore, age is no barrier.
The initial visit..
In the first session with an osteopath a detailed medical history is taken, and a series of physical exainations are performed, in order that a diagnosis may be reached. Subsequently, a treatment plan is devised. Some patients may need only one treatment, while others have a course of therapy or return periodically for the long-term management of a condition.
Osteopathic medicine is used for the treatment of:
- Acute or chronic back pain
- Neck pain/whiplash injuries
-
Disc prolapse
- Sciatica
- Headaches/migraine
- Arthritis/degeneration
- Joint pain
- Muscular aches
- Inflammatory conditions
- Organ dysfunction
- Tennis elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Stress and anxiety
Osteopathy is recognised by, and is an integral part of the medical associations of several countries, incuding the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia and France.
